The story
Completed in 1891 during French rule, the Central Post Office pairs a grand neoclassical facade with an airy interior of green ironwork and hand-painted maps. It still operates as a real post office alongside souvenir counters.
It is the most beautiful functioning post office in Asia — mail a postcard home from under the arched steel ceiling and the giant Ho Chi Minh portrait, then browse the old Saigon maps painted on the walls.
Local tips
Buy a stamp and actually mail a postcard — the clerks will hand-cancel it, and it makes the best cheap souvenir in the city.
