Where VietnamGo’s places come from
Most travel apps rank whatever has the most reviews. That surfaces the places tourists already found. VietnamGo is built the other way round: we research places worth the trip, say where each fact came from, and admit what we do not know.
Nothing is invented
Every place in the catalog was researched against named Vietnamese sources — food writing, local press, municipal records, the business’s own pages — before it was published. Our AI explains what is in the catalog; it never adds a place, a price or an opening time of its own. If we cannot source something, the field stays empty and the app says so rather than guessing.
Evidence levels
Each place carries the level of evidence behind it, shown on its page:
- Verified on site — someone from VietnamGo stood there and checked.
- Backed by Vietnamese sources — two or more independent named sources agree. Most of the catalog is here.
- Lead — one source, promising but unconfirmed. Treated as provisional.
Separately, each page tells you how old the facts are: when the hours were last confirmed, whether a price has ever been checked, and when a traveler last sent an update. Hours and prices go stale fastest, so they are the two we date explicitly.
Pins, hours and prices
A pin is only stored once it has been confirmed against a map. Where we have no confirmed pin, the app hands the name and address to your maps app to search instead of dropping you in the wrong alley. The whole catalog was checked against Google Maps in September 2026; places that had closed were removed, and a number of pins and opening hours were corrected.
Travelers keep it honest
Every place page has “Something changed?”. An update — new hours, a new price, sold out early, moved, closed, wrong pin — goes to an editor, who applies what checks out and credits you. Nothing a traveler sends changes the catalog automatically.
Labels
VietnamGo Pick, Local Favorite, Hidden Gem and Touristy but Worth It are editorial judgements, not scores. Touristy but Worth It exists because some famous places really are worth your morning, and pretending otherwise is its own kind of dishonesty. Ratings are a secondary signal, never the ranking.
