The story
Khanh Hoa's largest folk festival honors the goddess Yang Po Inu Nagar (Thien Y A Na) at the Po Nagar Cham towers. Kinh, Cham and Raglai pilgrims come from across the central region and the highlands. The core rites run on the 20th–23rd of the third lunar month. The goddess's statue is bathed in scented water and dressed in new robes, and flower lanterns are released on the Cai River. Mua bong dancers balance floral offerings on their heads, and offering ceremonies close the festival. It has been national intangible cultural heritage since 2012.
The festival at Ponagar Tower combines rituals and food stalls rooted in Cham cultural traditions. It follows the lunar calendar, so dates change each year.
Local tips
Come on the 20th lunar day for the statue-bathing and robe-changing rites, and that evening for the lantern release on the Cai River.
Watch for mua bong performances, where dancers balance floral offerings on their heads.
Space inside the tower is small; during ceremonies most people watch from the courtyard.
