The story
Ba Le is a square brick well in a small alley off Tran Hung Dao. Tradition attributes it to the Cham people, and it is known for clear fresh water. It is named after a local woman who paid for its restoration in the early 20th century, making it Hoi An's only heritage well named after a person. Local heritage sources link its water to Hoi An dishes, especially cao lau. It is a quick, free stop with mossy old brickwork.
