The story
Kim Bong is a woodworking village in Cam Kim commune, a short boat ride across the river from Hoi An. Sources say it was settled in the 15th century, and its craftsmen worked on projects including Hue's imperial capital. Workshops still produce furniture, decorative panels and boats. A walking and cycling trail through the village lets you watch artisans at work and buy directly from them.

Take a bicycle on the ferry, or rent one in the village. The village is easier to explore by bike.
Bring cash for handmade wooden souvenirs bought directly from craftspeople.
Cam Kim Market runs in the morning only; go early if you want to see it.
Bring sun protection in the dry season and rain gear in the wet season.

When to go
Visit around midday, when artisans are most likely to be at work. The dry season (roughly March–August) offers the best conditions.
Getting there
Take the roughly 10-minute boat from the landing on Bach Dang street near Hoi An Central Market. You can bring a bicycle on board. Or ride over a Cam Kim bridge; the new bridge is the safer option.
