The story
Standing since 1914, Ben Thanh packs some 1,500 stalls of fabric, coffee, dried goods, souvenirs, and cooked food under one roof. The wet market in the back and the eating lanes in the middle are the most authentic corners; after dark, food stalls spill onto the surrounding streets.
Yes it is touristy and yes you must haggle, but the clock tower is the emblem of the city and the food stalls inside serve genuinely good bowls. Come for the spectacle and the snacks, not the souvenirs.
