Câu chuyện
Lao Chai is home to Black Hmong artisans who still make batik: hot beeswax is drawn freehand onto hemp with small copper-and-bamboo pens, the cloth is dyed in natural indigo, then boiled to melt off the wax and reveal white designs on dark blue. Workshops let you sit on a low wooden stool, try the copper pen yourself and learn what the Hmong folk-art symbols mean.
Seeing the Hmong indigo-dyeing and batik process is more worthwhile than shopping for souvenirs. Visit in daylight and book ahead.
