The story
Co Mien has sold au tau porridge at Moc Mien since 1996. The shop is on National Highway 4C in the centre of Dong Van town, just under 1 km from the old quarter. Au tau is a toxic highland root. It's soaked for about 10 hours and cooked for hours more, and the owner tastes each batch before serving. The porridge is cooked with rice, pork and pork roll, finished with herbs, pepper and scallions, and tastes gently bitter and nutty.
Nearly 30 years old and a specific place to try au tau porridge.
